Sweeping for Change — The Olive Branch 10th Annual Bonspiel
Our home ice hosts a great cause: The Olive Branch for Children’s 10th Annual Curling Bonspiel aims to raise $20,000 for TOBFC’s programs in rural Tanzania. Two 6-end jitney-style games with teams drawn at random — you don’t need a team, and beginners are welcome. Snacks, lunch, cash bar, silent auction and prizes included. Meet TOBFC founder Deborah McCracken-Nangereke, curling with us in person, and take a 3D virtual-reality tour of Tanzania without leaving Schomberg!

Founders Spiel & Open House — Celebrating 15 Years
The King Curling Club is celebrating our 15th Anniversary, and we’re excited to host a bonspiel and open house to start our 15th season! Registration includes one 8-end game and lunch — and lunch-only tickets will be available for anyone who just wants to join us at the table. All are welcome to the open house and ceremony: we’d love to see past and current members alike come out for a fun game and the amazing fellowship King has become known for over 15 years.

Safety First
When accidents happen on the ice
We all hope we never need it, but every member should know the club’s Injury and Emergency Protocol. Here’s what to do if someone goes down on the ice:
|
Call 911 for any incident involving:
• A trip or fall where the curler’s head, helmet or other headgear contacts the ice or another surface • A trip or fall resulting in serious injury — bleeding, a broken bone, or possible internal injury • Any worrisome symptoms: brief loss of consciousness, confusion, memory loss, severe headache, nausea or vomiting
|
What happens next: inform the League Convenor (or their on-ice designate) immediately — they will call 911 and assign a curler to direct EMS to the right area. Please note: if the injured curler declines the medical attention EMS recommends, they will not be permitted to return to the ice that day.
The convenor or designate will also ensure a Township of King Accident/Incident Form is completed. Forms are available at ice level at the First Aid Box and on the credenza in the lounge; completed forms can be left at the TRISAN Centre reception desk. The convenor will inform the appropriate Director of Competitive or Social Leagues of the incident.
Protect your head out there. Ice is unforgiving, and falls can happen to curlers of every age and experience level — not just beginners. Headgear dramatically reduces the risk of serious injury, and wearing it is one of the simplest things you can do to keep yourself in the game all season long. Curling headgear is available for purchase at the bar — ask next time you’re in, and consider making it part of your regular kit.

More Ice Time
Lots of spare opportunities — raise your hand!
Teams across all our leagues are looking for spares every week — it’s a great way to get extra games, meet members from other leagues, and sharpen your skills. Make sure conveners can find you: update your availability under Member Information → My Subbing Availability on the club website.

KCC Ambassador Program
“Go to other clubs, experience the fun and promote King Curling Club events!”
The Ambassador Program was designed to promote our club by encouraging KCC members to get out and participate in bonspiels at other clubs. Every time you or your team enters an outside bonspiel, fill out a ballot and drop it in the entry box on the credenza to the right of the bar (minimum of 2 KCC members on the team).
• Your chance to win $100 per team member! • Three categories: Men, Women and Mixed Teams — one winner per category, drawn at the annual banquet • Minimum 2 KCC members per team, and only KCC members are eligible to win • Enter your team under “King Curling Club” — or, if you’re teamed up with non-members, register as “King CC/York CC” (for example)

Around the House
Club news in brief
Pace of play pays off. From the Wednesday league convenor: the pace-of-play initiative is working! Games are averaging just over 7 ends, and we’ve had a number of full 8-end games. So it can be done!
Enter your scores on the club iPad. From Player Development: an iPad is now set up to track scores — you’ll find it in the AV cabinet. Game scoring can be entered at the club directly from the iPad.
A record year for new curlers. From the AIL group: we have a record 50 new curlers in the program this year! The group is keen and progressing well, and we look forward to moving them into leagues in the new year. A huge thanks to all the dedicated coaches for their time and effort.
Coaches wanted — youth program. Our youth program is in a building phase and we could use more coaches — certified as either Club Coach or Youth Coach. Two upcoming options: a Club Coach course at the Midland Curling Club November 7–8, and a one-day Youth Coach program on January 9, 2027. The club will reimburse the course fee for members who participate.
