Around the House
The season is underway — and the crest looks great in the buttons
Two weeks in, the ice is busy, the lounge is buzzing, and our 15th-anniversary crest is officially on display in the button positions. Thanks to everyone who made opening weeks a success. This month’s issue is all about gear: our new club merchandise store, everything you need to know about grippers this season (including a members-only offer that closes this Friday), and a couple of quick club notes.

Gripper HQ
Grippers this season: what’s changed and how to get yours
This year the club did not invest in new “giveaway” grippers. Instead, we put those funds into the new sticky pads at the ice entry, which clean the debris off everyone’s footwear before you step on the ice — a bigger win for ice quality, every draw, all season. Here’s how to get a gripper of your own:
|
• In-stock grippers at the bar — $16.50, tax included. The grippers we have on hand (the ones we used to give away) are now set up on the POS system. Grab one with your post-game beverage. |
• Members-only: Goldline/Hardline at-cost offer — closes Friday, October 16. Order curling gear at wholesale pricing! There’s a binder at the bar with the Goldline/Hardline catalogue, the pricing sheets showing the wholesale cost, and a sign-up sheet — list what you’d like and the club orders it. The Goldline “universal” gripper, for example, is $18.99 plus tax. Don’t wait on this one — Friday, October 16 is the last day to get your order in. |
• Curl more than once a week? Plan a January refresh. Gripper makers recommend replacing twice a season if you’re on the ice two or more times a week — worn grippers shed little pieces of rubber that cause picks. A fresh gripper in January keeps you (and our ice) in top shape for the second half and playoffs. |

Gripper Maintenance
Give your grippers a little TLC
Throughout the season, grippers pick up dirt and debris from the ice, carpets and walkways. That dirt can make its way inside your shoe and — when you remove your gripper to slide — end up on your slider, and ultimately on the ice.
Give your grippers a thorough wash in the sink with mild dish soap and warm water, and let them dry completely before your next game. You may be surprised at how much better they look and feel! If your curling shoes have discs, don’t forget to clean those too. (Manufacturers recommend a wash at least once a month during the season.)
|
Before your next game, take a few minutes to: • Clean and wash your grippers • Check for holes or excessive wear • Make sure they’re secure and game-ready • Replace them if they’re damaged or worn out |
|
|
|
Take a minute. Clean your grippers. Keep the ice clean.

Give a Pair, Take a Pair
Outgrown curling shoes, or looking for a pair to get started? Check the shoe donation box just inside the club door, under the coat hangers. Drop off shoes you no longer need, or help yourself to a pair that fits — a great option for new curlers and growing juniors.
